Dust Mites

Are you suffering from allergic rhinitis (nasal congestion, itching, watery eyes, sneezing, and asthma)? Does your winter flu in the winter seem endless?

There’s a good chance that you are allergic to dust mites, like 30% of the world population. We are perfect hosts for mites which feed on our dead skin particles and can be found in large quantities in our beds. Up to 10,000,000 mites can be found in a bed. The life cycle of a mite is between 30 to 90 days. Females produce between one and three eggs per day. The best way to prevent allergic rhinitis is to avoid the allergen that triggers it.

Despite their small size, dust mites produce between 10 and 20 particles of waste per day, each containing a protein known to cause allergic reactions and asthma. These particles are so small that they float in the air when they are disturbed, and they disperse easily. The most recent studies show that 30% of the world population is allergic to dust mites and that they are responsible for 70% of respiratory allergies. 60% to 80% of children with asthma are susceptible to dust mites. A female will evacuate 200 times its weight in excrement over the course of its life, and after two years, the mites represent 10% of the weight of an unprotected pillow.

When a person sits on an unprotected 360-degree (zippered) bed, dust mite particles escape into the air and cause allergies and discomfort for sensitive people. Allergists recommend dust mite covers that protect all six 6 sides of the mattress with an ultimate protection barrier that protects against extremely fine particles (<2,5 microns). Mattress protectors that only cover the tops of beds are totally ineffective for people with allergies. More and more people are relying on our proven ProTech Allergies mattress covers.
